Killcummin

played 11th June 1978

Kilcummin were easy winners of the East Kerry Junior Championship final at the Park on Sunday last, where they defeated Spa 2-20 to 5-2. Their manner of victory was far easier than the final score line supported, as they had an unassailable 15 point lead with 10 minutes to go. Spa did make a great rally which yielded 3 goals, 2 of them from penalties, scored by Sean Cronin.

Kilcummin had their full squad available for the first time this year, and were particularly pleased with the fine scoring achieved by the forwards. Even midfielder Johnny Doolan, a great man to get the ball but usually inaccurate, kicked six points from play on Sunday last. A tally of 2-20 is a wonderful achievement even allowing for the poverty of the opposition.

They were particularly happy also to win the magnificent Owen O'Sullivan Cup since Owen played with the club.
