Glenflesk

played 27th Nov 1988

The final of the East Kerry "O'Sullivan Cup" between Glenflesk and Kilcummin was played in Deer Park on Sunday. The "O'Donoghue Cup" champions started well but once Kilcummin found their rhythm they dominated the remainder of the half. Pat Sheehan had a fine goal in the 5th minute and John Sugrue added a second within minutes of the interval. When Kilcummin led 2-3 to 1-3.

Kilcummin added a further point within minute of the resumption which was their only score of the half, whereas Glenflesk added a further 5 points. Exchanges were evenly contested overall and the winning point came in the 4th minute of injury time following a controversial decision.

Kilcummin were disappointed with the result but credit to Glenflesk who kept the pressure on to the end and reaped the reward. As this was the final game of 1988 credit to trainer Gene Moriarty for his dedication. Certainly the future is not bleak.
